Carnelian is found in India, Uruguay, and Brazil.

Color of Carnelian:
Carnelian can range from bright orange to reddish orange. The shades of red
are due to iron oxide, and it is often placed in the sun to change brownish tints to red.

Birthstone:
Carnelian is considered an alternate birthstone for July as well as an astrological birthstone and lucky charm for Taurus, Canser, Leo, Virgo and Pisces.

Anniversary:
Carnelian is not considered an anniversary gemstone.

History of Carnelian:
Romans believed Carnelian was a stone of courage that could shore up
strength and confidence. Ancient Egyptians placed carnelian on mummies
to assist them in their journey to the afterlife. It was also one of the stones inlaid in
the mask of Pharaoh Tutankhamen. Carnelian was once worn in cameos because
it was believed to ward off depression and insanity.
Napoleon I, Napoleon ill and Mohammed wore Carnelian. In the 1800's,
people believed that Carnelian would help those who needed courage
to speak. In the 1700's, people believed Carnelian would bring protection,
comfort, and luck.

Spiritual and Physical Beliefs About Carnelian:
Some believe that Carnelian in the home will protect against fire and
misfortune. Some spiritualists say that Carnelian can assist people in finding
the right mate and protect the wearer from anger, jealousy, and fear.
Some claim that Carnelian will help to balance creativity and mental
processing, and on this note, it is also supposed to aid daydreamers and
the absent-minded. Physically, some believe Carnelian can aid everything
from open wounds, sores, spasms, fever, infections, nosebleeds, arthritis,
and even infertility. Some claim that if Carnelian is worn around a woman's
neck, it will help to relieve cramps.
