Because Garnet is formed under high pressures and/or temperatures, it is often found in deposits of volcanic rock. Garnet can be found in a large number of countries including the Czech Republic, Kenya, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Scotland, India, Madagascar, Siberia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and several states within the United States.
Color of Garnet:
What we call garnet is most often a deep red gemstone, but in fact, like many other gemstones, garnet can be found in a variety of other colors including purple, orange, pink, yellow, green, and even colorless varieties. In fact, the only color garnet doesn't seem to exhibit is blue.
Birthstone:
Garnet is January's birthstone. It is also considered the astrological birthstone for Aquarius and Capricorn.

History of Garnet:
The ancient Greeks named garnets because the color of this gemstone reminded them of the pomegranate seed. Some have said that Asiatic tribes used garnet in place of bullets. Egyptians once believed that garnet was an antidote for both food poisoning and snakebites. Ancient Egyptians so treasured the gemstone that it was used in pieces of jewelry dating back as early as 3100 B.C. Garnet was later used to ward off vampires in Eastern Europe and to aid the Crusaders in safely finding their way home.
Spiritual and Physical Beliefs About Garnet:
Garnet has a special position in many religious histories. Some Hebrew writers included garnet as one of the twelve gems in Aaron's breastplate. In the Koran, it is written that garnet illuminates the Fourth Heaven of the Muslims. Due to its blood red color, garnet was considered symbolic of the death of Jesus Christ. This stone was also said to be use by Noah on the ark for illumination. Today, some still consider garnet to be a talisman, which can give protection to travelers. It is also believed by some spiritualists to prevent bad dreams. Some to combat depression and lethargy while giving courage and energy also thinks garnet. Some even think this "stone of passion" stimulates the sexual drive, while contradicting itself by warding off impure thoughts. It is also thought to attract true love.
Physically, some believe that garnet can stimulate the blood stream, cure fever, bring about good health, and relieve arthritis and rheumatism.
